How we verify each listing

A facility shows as verified only when its own website says it has electricity, and every listing shows those words.

What we checked

We started with 10,095 self storage facilities in 40 US markets. We could read the website for 8,857 of them. For each one we looked at amenity lists, unit size tags, feature lists, and FAQ pages for words about power.

What each label means

  • Outlets in the unit. The facility says some or all units have electricity or an outlet inside.
  • RV, boat, or car power. The facility says parking spots or vehicle units have power, a hookup, or a trickle charge.
  • May have power, call to confirm. The site mentions electricity, but not clearly enough to say units or spots have it. These are shown lower on the page and are not counted as verified.

Voltage, amps, and billing appear only when the facility lists them. When it doesn't, the listing says "Not listed."

What we leave out

  • Marketplace and booking sites, since they describe many facilities with the same text.
  • Social media pages and placeholder sites.
  • Facilities whose sites say nothing about power, or say they don't have it.

Ratings and hours

Google ratings, review counts, and opening hours come from Google listings. We hide the rating when a facility has no reviews.

Things change

Facilities rewire buildings, change rules, and update their websites. Always confirm power with the facility before you rent. If you rent somewhere and find something different, ask for a correction. If you run a facility, you can claim your listing.
