Privacy policy
We collect only what you choose to send us through a form or by email. We don't sell it or share it for advertising.
Corrections and removal requests
What we store: the type of request, the facility you picked (or "not listed"), what you asked us to change, your name, your relationship to the facility, your email, the request's status, and when it was sent and last updated. This is the form on the corrections page, which the "Is this listing wrong? Tell us" link on each listing opens.
Why: to check the request, update or remove the listing, and reply to you.
How long: we keep it for 12 months.
Listing claims
What we store: your name, your email, the facility, and your message from the claim form on the owners page. That form is delivered to us by a form service, which handles it only to pass it on.
Why: to check that you speak for the facility, add the details you send, and reply to you.
How long: we keep it for 12 months.
Listing feedback
Feedback about a listing goes through the corrections form above. We don't collect it any other way.
"Was this helpful?" on FAQ pages
What we store: the FAQ page, your answer (yes or no), and the time. Nothing that identifies you: no name, email, or IP address.
Why: to find answers that need work.
How long: we keep it for 12 months.
City alert emails
What we store: your email, the city page you signed up on, that you agreed to be emailed, and the time.
Why: only to email you when we add a facility with power in that city.
How long: until you ask us to stop, or for 12 months, whichever comes first.
If you email us, we keep your message and address for 12 months, so we can reply and keep track of what was asked.
Deleting your data
To see, correct, or delete anything you sent us, or to stop city alerts, email email us and tell us the email address you used. We'll delete it and confirm by email.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they use, and how they found the site. It sets cookies in your browser and collects things like the pages you view, your approximate location (from your IP address), your device and browser, and the site that sent you. Google processes this for us, in the United States and other countries, under Google's privacy policy. We don't use it for advertising and we don't send it your name, email, or anything you type into a form. You can block it with your browser's cookie settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn't use cookies or build a profile of you.
We use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in Google search. It doesn't put anything on your device. We use no advertising or other tracking tools, and there are no accounts on this site.
Saved on your device
Facilities you save with the heart button, and which questions you already answered, are kept in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Location
If you press "Use my location," your browser asks for permission and then uses your location on your device to find the nearest city we cover. Your location is not sent to us.
Maps and directions
The home page and city pages load map tiles from OpenStreetMap when you scroll to the map. OpenStreetMap receives your IP address when it serves those tiles. See the OpenStreetMap privacy policy. The Directions button opens Google Maps, which has its own privacy policy.
Hosting
The site and its forms run on Cloudflare, which processes basic request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. What you send through our forms is stored with Cloudflare, which may store and process it in the United States or other countries, where it can be subject to those countries' laws.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page.
