Do Life Storage units have electricity?
Last updated October 2026
Life Storage doesn’t exist as a separate brand anymore. It merged with Extra Space in 2023, and every Life Storage location now runs as Extra Space, so electricity depends on the individual location.
Extra Space and Life Storage announced the merger was complete on July 20, 2023. In its 2024 annual report, Extra Space says “we rebranded all Life Storage locations to Extra Space, shifting to a single, unified brand.” Community Impact reported that the name change happened in September 2024, with new signs going up afterward.
The old Life Storage website now sends visitors to extraspace.com. If you search for a Life Storage near you, you’ll land on an Extra Space location page.
That means the Extra Space answer applies. Extra Space says units with electricity are at select locations, some markets have waitlists, and power is for charging and monitoring, not for running equipment while you’re away.
In our data, Extra Space has 1,898 locations, and 22 of the 948 we could read list “Electrical access in units.” Our data doesn’t mark which of those were Life Storage sites before the rebrand.
If you rented at a Life Storage before the change and had power in your unit, ask the office whether your power terms carried over into your current rental agreement. Get any changes in writing.
If you’re shopping now, search by city and call the location to ask which units have an outlet, how many amps it carries, and whether power costs extra.
