Is there anywhere that rents storage units with both heat and power?
Last updated October 2026
Yes, a few places do, but you have to ask for both features by name. Heat comes from climate control, power comes from an outlet, and most facilities treat them as two separate things.
Extra Space says it directly: “Climate control and electricity are two separate features, and having one doesn’t guarantee the other.”
Climate control also means different things at different chains:
- U-Haul says its climate controlled units are kept between 65 and 85 degrees, and offers heated storage as a separate product meant to prevent freezing.
- Public Storage says its buildings are designed for 50 to 82 degrees, but it “does not guarantee temperature or humidity ranges.”
- Extra Space gives 55 to 80 degrees.
Some independent facilities offer both in one unit. Smith Valley Storage in Greenwood, Indiana rents large units with gas unit heaters and charges a monthly gas and electric fee. In our data, 8 facilities with confirmed power mention heat in the line we quoted from their website.
When you call, ask:
- Is this unit heated, or is the building climate controlled? What temperature does it hold in winter?
- Does the unit have its own outlet, and how many amps?
- Who pays for heat and power, and is either metered?
Units with both often rent as workshop or business space, so read the lease for limits on how you can use the unit.
