Do U-Haul storage units have outlets?

Last updated October 2026

Some do. U-Haul labels each unit on its location pages, so you can see “Electricity” or “No Electricity” before you call. Of the 470 U-Haul locations we checked, 18 tag at least one unit with “Electricity.”

That per-unit label makes U-Haul easier to check than most chains. U-Haul’s Spokane location on North Division Street, for example, lists “Electricity” on several indoor units. Other units at the same site have no power, so read the label on the exact unit you plan to rent.

Power for vehicles works the same way. U-Haul’s vehicle storage page lists electrical outlets with a note that they are at “Select Locations.” A U-Haul blog post on RV, boat, and car storage says indoor parking “also includes electrical outlets to keep your equipment charged.”

Some locations spell out limits. The East Cheyenne location advertises “Electricity In Every Space Trickle Charge-20 Amps/2 hours,” which reads as a charging outlet for a battery, not steady power for tools. A label that just says “Electricity” doesn’t tell you the amps.

In our data, 9 U-Haul locations show a “No Electricity” tag on the units we saw, so the label cuts both ways.

Before you rent, ask the location:

  • Is the outlet inside the unit or on a post by the parking space?
  • How many amps is it, and is there a time limit?
  • What can stay plugged in when you’re not there?
